East Fremantle Team Song

from East Fremantle Old Easts by Dave Warner

/

about

In 1979 towards the end of the WAFL footy season Tony Buhagiar and some other senior East Fremantle players approached me asking if I could write them a new song to lift their spirits. The team was hanging on in the top 4 as finals approached but Tony, Ken Judge, Barry Wilson and others sought something special to bond the team. I was recording Correct Weight at Planet Studios in Perth at the time so I said okay. I wrote and recorded with song with `Tappers' from the ABC scoring the music and getting some of the ABC orchestra in to play. Then one night about fifteen of the players came down to the studio and we recorded the song. I don't believe the team lost a game after that - perhaps one - but they make the finals and won their way through from the first-semi to win the flag. Much credit is given to the bonding the team had at Point Peron but I believe this song also helped. The club (Merv Cowan) would not let the players use the song as the official club song so it was called the East Fremantle Team song. I pressed up a few hundred copies and the gave them to the players to sell to raise money for their end of season trip.

lyrics

EAST FREMANTLE TEAM SONG
In all the land there is one club to whom I give my all
And that is East Fremantle the greatest of them all
The other clubs all try to be what we have always been
But it’s a fact of history East are the greatest team

In the flush of victory in moments of defeat
In body blows dealt out to us we never lose our feet
Our spirit and our courage ensure that we stand tall
Come one come all you cannot shake the greatest of them all

From Palmyra to Geraldton the Blue and White is law
Wherever other clubs may tread Old East’s been there before
You can stretch our flags for premierships from here to Timbuctu
We’re quick we’re tough we’re fast we’re slick we’re loyal and we’re true

And I’ll always be a Blue and White while there is breath in me
For I was born to Old East and Old East were born to lead
So in the flush of victory in moments of defeat
In body blows dealt out to us we never lose our feet
Our spirit and our courage ensure that we stand tall
Come one come all you cannot shake the greatest of them –
East Fremantle
East Fremantle
East Fremantle
The greatest of them all.
